Outreach

As well as contributing to the activities at St Peter’s and St Elizabeth’s, people of the parishes are also actively involved within their respective local communities working with other church groups and charities.

St Peter’s

Churches Together Around Ludlow (CTAL)

We are an active member of Churches Together around Ludlow (CTAL) which comprises Christians from various denominations serving the people of Ludlow and surrounding areas.  In addition to occasional ecumenical acts of worship, such as the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, the Good Friday Procession and Living Nativity, CTAL works in schools and care homes as part of its community outreach.  CTAL is also very involved in alleviating poverty and helping anyone in need, and supports the Food Bank and Hands Together Ludlow (see below). Ludlow Food Bank

Ludlow Food Bank is based at the Baptist Church at the Rockspring Centre, Sandford Rd, Ludlow SY8 1SX.  Many of the volunteers that staff the Food Bank are members of the Christian churches in the town.  New helpers are always required.  

Further details about the Food Bank and how to get involved with their work are available via their website.  The parish contact for the Foodbank is Tony Davies whose contact details are given above.  As well as providing volunteers, food donations are collected at the back of church and are delivered to the Food Bank on a regular basis.

Hands Together Ludlow

Hands Together Ludlow works with CTAL and other groups and services to provide support to the community in and around Ludlow.  Largely relying on the help of volunteers, this group runs a range of activities such as a community fridge (distributing fresh food to anyone in need) and Men’s Shed at their community building at 15 Lower Galdeford, Ludlow.  The parish contact for Hands Together Ludlow is Astrid Davies, whose details are given below.

Parish Centre

This facility is an asset to the parish and is our offering to the local community.  As part of our outreach to the community, the hall is used by NHS and AA Support Groups, as well as for gardening club meetings, fitness classes etc and is an important contributor to the parish funds.  If you would like to hire the room for an event or you know someone who is seeking a suitable venue in Ludlow for a meeting or class, please see our Parish Centre page.

St Elizabeth’s

Cleobury Compassionate Communities (CoCo)

Volunteers from the parish at St Elizabeth’s provide help and support to their community as part of Cleobury Compassionate Communities (CoCo), an organisation which provides valuable support at home for the lonely and isolated.

Cleobury Mortimer Afternoon Tea Club

The Cleobury Mortimer Afternoon Tea Club, which is supported by members of the parish, takes place at St Mary’s Place Community Room, DY14 8PF, on the first Wednesday of the month and provides a traditional afternoon tea and an opportunity to make new friends.

Walking for Health

Organised by the Cleobury Mortimer Footpath Association, Walking for Health comprise short (up to 2miles or about 60 minutes) health walks around Cleobury on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of the month and provide an opportunity for a chat and post walk refreshments.  The ‘local’ walks also coincide with COCO coffee mornings and start from Cleobury Market Hall at 10am.

Cleobury Food Bank

The parish of St Elizabeth’s supports the Cleobury Food Bank through donations and by providing volunteers.  The Food Bank, which is situated in Cleobury Mortimer Fire Station was established in 2019 and serves the residents of Cleobury Mortimer and surrounding areas.

Severn Hospice

Severn Hospice provides specialist palliative and specialist end of life care in their hospices and at home.  Some of the parishioners from St Elizabeth’s volunteer at Severn Hospice Charity Shop located at 16 High Street, Cleobury Mortimer DY14 8DG.

Churches Together in Cleobury Mortimer

St Mary the Virgin (Church of England), Cleobury Mortimer Methodist Church, the New Life Church and St Elizabeth’s comprise the Churches Together Group in Cleobury Mortimer.  Annie Doherty, whose email address is given above, is the representative at St Elizabeth’s.
